Althea is the work of an owner with a clear point of view rather than a hotel assembled from a design catalogue. Handmade textiles, ceramics and collected objects give every suite and bungalow its own Karpathian identity, while balconies turn towards the sea below Amoopi. Breakfast is cooked with unusual care and local ingredients, and the new pool with its swim-up bar gives guests a reason to linger after the beaches become busy. The hotel sits on a slope, and the walk down to Amoopi’s coves becomes a steeper climb home; travellers with limited mobility should discuss the most suitable room and plan on using a car. Pigadia is about four kilometres away, so this is not a base for walking to the port’s nightlife. The adults-only policy begins at age 15, and room layouts vary considerably in size and proximity to shared areas. Althea is Karpathos’ best small adults-only hotel for travellers who value individuality, thoughtful food and a host-led sense of place.
