A working model, not the original ancient mechanism
One room on the ground floor of Potamos's neoclassical community building contains a working transparent model of the Antikythera Mechanism. Built at four times the original scale, it makes the gears and astronomical calculations easier to follow than photographs alone. The compact display is a useful bridge between the island, the offshore shipwreck and the far larger collection in Athens.
The original mechanism, statues and other recovered objects are not on Antikythera; they are held by the National Archaeological Museum in Athens. Published weekday hours can change when community staffing is limited, so call before visiting and do not expect a full archaeological museum. Combine the hall with Potamos rather than treating it as an all-day destination.
