A serious southern walk that needs a local route check
Walking to Apolytara gives the lighthouse context that a distant photograph cannot: dry terraces, sparse hamlets and the open sea on both sides of the island. Routes are described from Katsaneviana or Galaniana, with the complete outing taking several hours depending on the chosen start, path condition and pace. The southern cape feels genuinely remote even by Antikythera's standards.
Obtain current directions in Potamos and save an offline track before leaving. Carry more water than expected, food, sun protection, a charged phone, first-aid basics and a headlamp margin. Do not walk alone in extreme heat or strong wind, and set a firm turnaround time. Building access is separate from path access; reaching the lighthouse does not permit entry or crossing any operational boundary.
