The science that makes the caldera legible
Housed in the old school at Nikia, the museum sets Nisyros within the volcanic arc of the South Aegean. Maps, rock samples, photographs and explanatory displays show how the caldera formed and why hydrothermal activity continues. Visit before descending to Stefanos if possible: the names, processes and hazards seen inside make the landscape outside easier to read.
