Pachia Ammos Beach

Pachia Ammos is an unserviced east-coast beach reached by a footpath beyond Lies, with dark sand, little shade and a sense of space uncommon on Nisyros.

Our take

Nisyros's wild sand beach for prepared walkers

Pachia Ammos is the island's clearest answer to travellers looking for an undeveloped beach rather than a village swim. The path leaves the road beyond Lies and crosses dry, exposed ground before dropping to a long arc of dark sand and fine shingle. With no building on the shore, the landscape feels remote even though the walk is relatively short.

Bring all water, food and shade, wear closed shoes for the approach and conserve enough energy for the return climb in full sun. There is no lifeguard, toilet or dependable phone signal, and the open coast can produce waves and currents. Natural shade is scarce and camping or fires should not be assumed legal. If wind is rising or the path feels unsafe, use Pali or another accessible beach instead.
