Balcony of Emporeios

Balcony of Emporeios pairs a high view into the volcanic landscape with home-style island cooking, making the near-empty village worth more than a photo stop.

Our take

Caldera views and slow cooking in Emporeios

The restaurant occupies one of Emporeios's most memorable positions, looking across the caldera from a village that lost much of its population after the mid-twentieth century. The cooking is straightforward and place-specific: slow dishes, vegetables, cheese, capers and meat make more sense here than rushing through a generic lunch before the next viewpoint.

Emporeios has limited parking and steep, uneven lanes, so allow time to approach respectfully and never block residents. Reserve and confirm opening hours, particularly outside the main summer weeks; a remote restaurant cannot be treated as an always-open attraction. Ask about the dishes of the day and dietary needs when booking. In hot weather, combine lunch with an early caldera visit rather than arriving after a long exposed walk.
