A ruined medieval basilica beyond the floating bridge
The long floating footbridge makes the approach to Agios Achillios part of the visit. Beyond it, paths cross an inhabited island to the remains of a large medieval basilica associated with Prespa's period as a political and ecclesiastical centre. Low walls, columns and the broad footprint read best slowly, with Small Prespa and the surrounding mountains supplying the scale.
The bridge is exposed to sun, wind, frost and movement underfoot, and the island paths are uneven. There is no reason to step onto fragile masonry or archaeological ground outside the route. Bring water, keep dogs controlled around livestock and wildlife, and carry out all waste. Visitors with mobility or balance concerns should ask the information centre about current bridge conditions before driving to the mainland parking area.
