A cliff sanctuary reached from Great Prespa by boat
The cliffs beyond Psarades hold caves, hermitages and painted religious images that cannot be understood from the village quay. Panagia Eleousa occupies a natural recess above Great Prespa and forms the principal stop on local boat routes, alongside the Ascension and Transfiguration hermitages and several rock paintings. The journey also reveals the scale of the transboundary lake.
Use a licensed local boat and accept the skipper's decision on wind, water and landing conditions. Access from the boat may involve wet rock, steps or an exposed path and is not universally suitable; ask before paying if mobility is limited. Wear shoes with grip, keep hands off paintings and walls, and do not leave litter or candles. Bring identification in the border lake area and never ask a skipper to cross an international boundary informally.
