A maritime landmark reached on a three-kilometre island walk
The lighthouse gives a land day on Othonoi a clear destination. Built at Cape Kastri and operating since the nineteenth century, it represents the island's long relationship with sailors entering the Ionian from the north. The stone tower, keeper's house and nearby traces of fortification are read from outside, with the coast and open sea providing the strongest part of the visit.
The route from Ammos is roughly three kilometres and can be walked or partly approached by car, but shade is limited and vegetation may narrow the final path. Carry water, wear proper shoes and avoid midday heat. The tower interior is generally closed except for specific authorised occasions; do not cross barriers or disturb the staffed site. Turn back in lightning, strong wind or fading light, and keep away from unprotected cliff edges.
