Patrick and Joan Leigh Fermor built this house as a place to live, work and receive friends, and later donated it to the Benaki Museum. The visit is strongest when approached through that domestic purpose: rooms, books, art, garden and the relationship between local stone and the coast. It is also an active centre for residencies and educational work, not a permanently open historic house.
The Benaki Museum currently lists a scheduled Monday visit and requires online ticket purchase in advance. Treat both detail and availability as date-specific, because residencies or events can alter access. The museum warns that terrain makes the property difficult for restricted mobility; call before booking rather than inferring access from photographs. Arrive at the instructed entrance, not a neighbouring hotel or private drive, and do not approach the shore or grounds outside the permitted visit.
