Syrrako

Syrrako preserves slate roofs, stone lanes and merchant houses on a steep slope, best experienced by staying late and walking beyond the central square.

Our take

A car-free stone village above the Chrousias ravine

Syrrako's stone houses occupy a steep fold above the Chrousias ravine, their slate roofs and narrow lanes protected from vehicle traffic inside the historic core. The village's merchant history is visible in substantial houses, fountains and churches, while the square remains a social centre rather than an outdoor museum. Arriving after day visitors leave reveals the scale and quiet of the settlement.

Park only in the signed area outside the village and expect cobbles, steps and gradients from the first minute. Shoes with grip matter in rain or frost, and rolling luggage is impractical. Ask before photographing residents or interiors, and do not treat private courtyards as viewpoints. The footpath to Kalarrytes is a genuine mountain walk, not a casual extension of the village stroll; carry water and assess weather before committing.
