Connect museums, cocoon houses and workshops on foot
Start at the PIOP Silk Museum, continue along Vasileos Georgiou towards the Tsiakiris museum, then leave the main road for quieter lanes and the upper Karkatsilia quarter. The route shows how merchant houses, cocoon rooms, workshops, churches and ordinary twentieth-century buildings sit together. Look for deep tiled roofs, high upper floors and ventilation openings, but remember that most interesting façades belong to homes rather than open attractions.
Two to three hours allows one museum and the street circuit; use a full day if visiting both major museums. Pavements can narrow or disappear, drivers use the main street and summer shade is uneven.
