Faros Beach

Faros is Ikaria's longest south-coast beach, mixing sand, pebble and smooth rock with village tavernas, parking and quick access from the airport.

Our take

The south coast's easiest full-service beach day

Faros curves along the island's eastern end, a few minutes from the airport and about 13 kilometres from Agios Kirykos. Its sand-and-pebble shore is backed by a developed village with tavernas, cafés and accommodation. Smooth rock plates appear in the water, while a shallow rock-enclosed section can suit younger swimmers under close supervision.

The bay is easier to reach and better supplied than Ikaria's remote coves, so it also attracts summer crowds. Water sports and small boats may share parts of the shore. Wear water shoes if rock underfoot is a concern, keep clear of the pier and launching areas, and confirm current facilities rather than assuming every operator opens throughout the shoulder season.
