Sheltered sand and easy swimming on Akrotiri
Marathi faces Souda Bay from the southeast side of Akrotiri, where a small headland divides two sandy coves. The setting is gentler than the peninsula's exposed north coast: boats rest offshore, tavernas sit within a few steps, and the usual northerly wind is softened by the bay.
Both sections become busy on summer weekends and parking tightens early. The entry is generally shallow and sandy, although mooring lines and small craft require attention beyond the swimming zone. Arrive before mid-morning for an easier space and check local flags if a less common southerly wind is blowing.
