Stavros Beach

Stavros combines a protected circular cove, sandy shallows and full village services in one of the easiest beach days on the Chania peninsula.

Our take

A sandy lagoon sheltered beneath Akrotiri's bare ridge

The main beach at Stavros curves around a compact lagoon below the steep ridge seen in Zorba the Greek. Its narrow opening shelters the inner water from much of the north-coast chop, and the sandy entry is forgiving for children and less confident swimmers.

The cove's convenience brings dense summer use, so arrive early if you want parking and a front-row place. A second, more open beach lies around the headland and behaves differently in wind. Check which side is calmer rather than assuming conditions match.
