Nealia Beach

Nealia is an unorganised sand-and-pebble beach east of Therma, reached by rough road and footpath through green hills near the island's old thermal landscape.

Our take

A remote south-coast swim beyond Therma

Nealia sits beyond Therma on a quieter stretch of the south coast. Green slopes, a mixed sand-and-pebble shore and traces of ancient thermal activity give the area a markedly different character from the resort beaches around Armenistis. It can also be a rewarding endpoint for experienced walkers approaching from Therma via Loumakia.

The last kilometre of road is unsurfaced and the final approach continues on foot. There are no dependable services, so carry water, food and sun protection, and do not begin the walk in peak heat. The southern position can offer shelter from a northerly, but it remains open sea; assess swell and your return route before entering.
