Perissa Beach

Perissa offers a long volcanic shore, complete resort services and bus access, with dark sand that becomes fiercely hot under midsummer sun.

Our take

Santorini's long black-sand beach below Mesa Vouno

Perissa begins beneath the mass of Mesa Vouno and continues south into Perivolos. Its black volcanic sand and pebble are the defining features, while a long line of restaurants, bars and water-sports operators makes it Santorini's easiest all-day beach base.

Wear footwear between the lounger and water because the dark surface heats rapidly. The sea becomes moderately deep, and north wind can create chop even when the caldera side is calm. A seasonal boat link around Mesa Vouno may connect with Kamari, but confirm the last return.
