Move floor by floor from geology and wildlife to domestic rooms, trades, costume and the historical experience of western Macedonia
The collection is broad enough to reward a selective visit. Natural-history sections introduce the region's geology, plants and animals, while historical and folklore displays move through agricultural work, workshops, clothing, interiors and civic memory. Rather than treating western Macedonia as a single timeless village, the museum can help visitors see how environment, labour and urban growth affected one another.
Several floors and a building designed in a traditional idiom mean access should be checked before arrival; do not assume every gallery is reached by lift. Ask staff for the strongest route if time is limited and allow at least ninety minutes for the full collection. Labels may not all be in English, so a translation app can help. Combine the museum with Nikis Square on foot, then leave the more distant Aiani collection for a separate half-day.
