Cross the long lake bridge slowly, then stop off-road to understand the reservoir, fruit country and mountain walls around Servia
The drive to Servia reveals a different scale of the Kozani region. The artificial lake occupies the Aliakmon valley, reflecting the Pierian mountains and supporting irrigation, fishing and energy infrastructure. The high bridge is the dramatic approach, but the useful experience comes from continuing to legal viewpoints and villages where the reservoir's relationship to farmland and settlement is easier to read.
Never stop on the bridge carriageway or step into traffic for a photograph. Use established pull-offs, check road conditions in fog or winter weather and keep enough fuel for a wider circuit. Water levels and shore access vary, and steep unsupervised banks are not casual swimming sites. Combine the lake with Servia or Aiani rather than treating it as a rushed roadside detour; sunset is attractive, but leave mountain roads before fatigue sets in.
