Agios Nikolaos makes the island's relationship with seafaring personal. This remains an active place of worship. Enter only when it is open, dress with covered shoulders and knees, silence phones and never photograph a service or interior objects without permission. The climb through the village includes slopes and steps; combine it with the maritime walk rather than making a separate vehicle stop. Feast days can make access more communal but also busier, so follow local directions and keep doorways clear.
