Theoktistis Monastery and Theoskepasti Chapel

Theoktistis is a compact historic monastery at Pigi, best known for the Theoskepasti chapel tucked beneath a broad slab of rock nearby.

Our take

A cave chapel and painted monastery above Kampos

The monastery of Osia Theoktisti stands at Pigi in the wooded interior above Kampos. Its main church preserves wall paintings, while former cells and auxiliary buildings show the scale of the earlier complex. The memorable element lies a short walk away: the small Theoskepasti chapel formed inside a cave and roofed by a massive natural rock.

This remains a religious place rather than a scenic prop. Dress respectfully, keep voices low and never interrupt worship or a private gathering. Access is by car, taxi or on foot below the Avlaki-Pigi road, and surfaces around the cave can be uneven. Confirm current opening and any local celebration before driving across the island.
