A sculpted rocky inlet to admire in calm weather
Kamarela is formed by pale, water-shaped rock around a narrow strip of blue on the island's eastern side. Its scale and unusual geology make it one of Antikythera's most photographed coastal corners. In calm conditions, confident visitors may enjoy the clear water and the sense of enclosure, but there is almost no conventional beach on which to spread out.
Access is awkward, the rock can be sharp or slippery and swell can make entry and exit unsafe. Do not climb down simply because photographs make the cove appear sheltered. Ask in Potamos about the current route and sea state, wear secure shoes and turn back if the final descent feels uncertain. There are no services, shade or lifeguard, and it is unsuitable for young children or anyone with limited mobility.
