A deep limestone chamber reached by a demanding stairway
The Cave of Antiparos is more than a cool pause from the beach. Visitors descend into a large limestone chamber marked by stalactites, stalagmites and centuries of recorded human attention. The entrance stands high on Agios Ioannis hill, with a broad view across the island before the route turns sharply downward. Allow time to look rather than treating it as a quick photo stop.
Roughly 400 steep steps lead into the cave and must be climbed again on the way out. The surfaces can be damp, the temperature shifts and the route is unsuitable for many people with heart, breathing or mobility conditions. Wear closed shoes, carry only what you need and read the current entry restrictions before travelling. Opening is seasonal and can change, so verify the official notice and bus return on the same day.
