Achata Beach

Achata is a sheltered pebble cove reached through Karpathos's rugged interior, valued for clear swimming and a quieter scale than Apella.

Our take

A steep-sided east-coast cove with calm, clear water

Achata lies at the end of a dramatic valley north of Pigadia. Rounded pebble, a compact seasonal taverna and high rock walls give it a self-contained character, while the seabed becomes interesting for snorkellers near the edges.

The final road is narrow and sinuous, with little margin for hurried driving. Parking, shade and food are finite, so arrive early and carry a backup supply of water. The shore shelves beyond the first metres and no lifeguard should be assumed.
