Karpathos's chapel-topped cove in full colour
The red dome above Kyra Panagia is not an incidental landmark; it gives this east-coast cove its unmistakable profile. Pale coarse sand and pebble meet clear water between steep rocky slopes, with tavernas and rooms clustered behind the shore.
The descent is paved but narrow, and turning or parking becomes difficult once the lower spaces fill. Come early or use a boat excursion, take shoes for the coarse shoreline and watch children where the bottom drops. The chapel deserves quiet dress and conduct if open.
